SF Chronicle – S.F. DA charges man allegedly linked to string of Waymo vandalism incidents
Editors note: a key issue appears to be that the DA has forwarded a vandalism charge for a “coning” that caused no damage.

San Francisco prosecutors filed charges against a man accused of vandalizing multiple Waymo vehicles in SoMa, authorities announced Thursday.
The defendant, 45-year-old Walker Reed Quinn, allegedly attempted to damage Waymo vehicles in four separate instances this year.
The first incident occurred on July 4 around 8:52 a.m. on the 1200 block of Howard Street, where Quinn dove onto the hood of a Waymo and left a cone on its sensors, prosecutors said.
Quinn also allegedly damaged the tires and the driver’s side mirror of a vehicle near Sixth and Mission streets on July 29 at around 9:09 a.m. About thirty minutes later, he damaged the top sensor and windshield wiper of another Waymo in the area, prosecutors said.
Most recently, on Aug. 11 at 2:40 p.m., Quinn walked up to a Waymo that was carrying a passenger, yelled and stomped on the windshield about five times, prosecutors said. The windshield was later found caved in with damaged wipers, prosecutors said.
Quinn was charged with three counts of vandalism more than $400 and one count of vandalism less than $400 with prior vandalism convictions.
Prosecutors said Quinn also vandalized the vehicles while he was released on his own recognizance or on bail in other pending felony cases, including one where he allegedly damaged another Waymo.
Quinn was set to be arraigned on Thursday at 1:30 p.m and prosecutors said they will ask a judge to have him detained pending trial.
