A group of rideshare drivers are calling out Waymo’s driverless taxis with new allegations that minors are riding in robotaxis without adult supervision.

The California Gig Workers Union, which represents rideshare drivers, filed a formal complaint against Waymo Tuesday at the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).

The complaint alleges Waymo “has been knowingly violating the conditions of its state permit by transporting unaccompanied minors.”

It goes on to request that the CPUC get to the bottom of what the union is calling serious public safety and regulatory compliance by determining whether or not the violation is happening and, if so, did Waymo implement reasonable safeguards to prevent it from happening?

The union also is asking for enforcement actions against the autonomous vehicle company, with the suspension of Waymo’s permit.
