MSN – SUV hits and kills pedestrian in Dallas, impact throws victim into a Waymo, according to officials
Editors note: Will be interesting to see how this turns out. Pedestrian was hit by an SUV and “thrown” into a Waymo. The pedestrian died. Similar to the big Cruise crash. It wasn’t initially caused by a robotaxi but if the robotaxi wasn’t there would the pedestrian have died? And note that the Waymo was not serving a passenger at the time.

One person is dead after being hit by a vehicle and being thrown into a Waymo on Maple Avenue late Friday night, according to Dallas police.
Just before midnight, police say a man was walking in the road when an SUV hit him while driving southbound. The impact sent the victim “over 30 feet away,” according to officials, where he hit the back of an unoccupied Waymo vehicle that was traveling in the opposite direction.
A Waymo spokesperson says “We are deeply saddened by what happened and our thoughts are with the individual’s family and friends. We are in touch with first responders and grateful for their quick response last evening.”
In their statement, Waymo says their vehicle had detected the pedestrian before the crash and had slowed to roughly 5 miles-per-hour at the time of impact. They added that the unoccupied vehicle came to a stop and their Event Response Team coordinated with responding officers about the incident.
The man was transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.
The victim in this crash has not been identified at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
