KXAN – Austin Police Department officers move Waymo vehicles pulled over during severe weather

Editors note: Waymo business model is apparently relying on the police to move their vehicles when they block traffic. And the vehicles cannot handle severe weather. Not exactly “autonomous”, are we Waymo. And to think that Tesla claims to be able to provide a robotaxi system??!?!

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police officers were able to move Waymo vehicles pulled over during severe weather Sunday night.

Police said they responded to the West 15th bridge near North Lamar Boulevard around 10:15 p.m. Sunday after several reported the self-driving vehicles blocking traffic.

When officers arrived, they found both autonomous vehicles were partially blocking a ramp. The officers were able to “successfully and safely move the autonomous vehicles.”

Waymo said a majority of its cars stop taking new rides when a severe weather threat exists.

Due to those conditions Sunday night, a number of Waymo vehicles pulled over and stopped on the side of the road, according to Waymo. Then, operations resumed once the conditions improved.
