Lawsuit filed for cyclist seriously injured by two Waymo robotaxis
On 6/6/25 a lawsuit was filed for a cyclist who was seriously injured from dangerous behavior by two Waymo robotaxis (full lawsuit). This is exactly why Waymo robotaxis should not be allowed on the transit only portion of Market Street in downtown San Francisco. They simply are not safe around cyclists and they do not follow the law. They do not use safe and legal locations to properly discharge passengers.
Some details on the cyclist/Waymo lawsuit:
- Happened Feb 16, 7th St bike lane, btwn Stevenson & Market
- Cyclist claims they suffered serious injuries and was taken to emergency room by ambulance.
- Less than 100’ from where I got doored on Market St long ago
- Waymo discharged passengers in a no stopping, commercial loading only area
- Cyclist was doored by one Waymo, and then hit another Waymo
- A Waymo passenger had exited the vehicle on the left side, which is not safe nor legal. Passengers should always exit on the curb side to prevent this type of injurious crash.
- Passengers did not notice the cyclist warning system, indicating it was inadequate
- Passengers left scene of injury without providing required info
- Also suing Waymo for punitive damages!
- Blames CPUC for permitting Waymos, but not suing the CPUC
