Sophia Tung – I tried the Zoox toaster car with REAL robotaxi engineers!

Though they try to make the Zoox sound like a reasonably advanced AV, clearly the technology and the ride lags several years behind. Getting stuck at a light doesn’t help.

The key issue these engineers don’t address though is whether Zoox is viable from a business point of view. Various robotaxis provide the same service: getting people from here to there. If one of them does so notably worse, like the current Zoox, then users simply won’t use it. They will just use the other, better system. And that means that while Waymo will never be profitable, Zoox will be left in the dust.
